Ageism is a form of discrimination in the workplace that is often overlooked and is typically excluded from diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives. The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2023 notes that while 68% of companies surveyed will prioritize youth under 25 in their DE&I programs, only 36% will prioritize workers over age 55.

Researchers have found that even those who are advocates for equality “harbor more prejudice toward and allocate fewer resources to older
